UMPC the next generation gadget?

mupc-400×400.jpg

What is an UMPC? What does it do? Why are you telling us this stuff?

UMPC stands for Ultra Mobile PC, and is the next generation gadget which will replace the mobile and laptop.

These are now available in limited numbers for around £600 to £900 and are approx 7″ to 8″ with either a small keyboard or even touch screen for the ultimate to space age technology.

Why do I want one? You want one because laptops are hardly pocket size and using the web on your phone is expensive, restrictive or just plain frustrating.

These little beauties will have enough processor to play music and fims while searching the net and have all the usual USB ports you would expect of a standard laptop. Like any item in development these will become steadily more powerful and less expensive as time goes on…

If you are the type of person who likes to have every next generation gadget you will want to hunt down this illusive beast. Not readliy available in Europe yet it is sure to be HUGE in the years to come.

UK Gadget Shops are committed to keep you updated on next generation gadgets and any related gadget news.

New stores on UK Gadget Shops

Just a short blog entry to let you know that I have just finished updating the main site and have found new shops, 3 in total, to add to the 30 that were there already there.

The UK Gadgets Shops is committed to giving users the best service and will add quality gadget stores as they appear.

The new shops as added to UK Gadget Shops on 4th June 2007 are as follows: Needapresent, Feeling Chilled and Loads More Stuff.

Hopefully there will be plenty more new shops to be added to our listings in the next few months.

Lost Property

File this under ‘makes you think…’… London City Transport (or TFL) has 2 floors of lost property stores and has at least 15 iPods and hundreds of mobiles handed in every day. Items handed in each day include the most expensive small electronics available such as top of the line mobiles, laptops, Blackberrys and palmtops amongst others. Makes you think?

Also, how many top businessmen or indeed important government officials leave their laptop chock full of trade secret/secret service data on public transport? Does the MI6 have a special transport squad which searches through all the mobiles and laptops they find?

Where do all these go? They go to a huge lost property depot underneath Baker Street Station which holds over 40,000 items. Hopefully these are recycled after not being claimed.

So the next time you stand up to leave a train, underground train or bus it might be worth your while checking your belongings!!! Before they become lost property.

Fathers Day 2007

Fathers day 2007 is on the 17th June, so you might want to get in early and get him something like a gadget from one of the many great shops at UK Gadet Shops. Dad’s love technology and pretty much anything with flashing lights and moving parts so they are not that hard to please.

Fathers day is not traditionally as well observed as Mothers day, however you dont need to spend the earth on a snazzy little gadget or gizmo. You can get a memorable gift for under a tenner, leaving cash aside for something for yourself…

Fathers day 2007 is a Sunday.

You have been reminded…

Traffic Wardens to get headband cameras

My favourite new story from last nights news was the one about traffic wardens getting cameras mounted on their hats to record their busy day. While protecting workers is fine, where is the cash to fund this coming from? ( are they going to have to go into overdrive writing tickets, making themselves even more unpopular!) Since wardens will only show the footage that backs up their arguement, will motorists all have to have a dashboard mounted camera to put their side of the story to appeals and court cases.

This scheme was piloted in Greater Manchester and could be expanded UK wide, with even Police getting in on the fun.

The thought of every civil servant in the UK beeming wireless pictures of you to headquarters is slightly disconcerting and raises the question of who will be watching the footage and Freedom Of Information issues. I don’t think the governmen has thought this through do you?

Soon we will all leave the house with a camera in case anything happens….

Glasgow University given 1.2million for gadget research

Glasgow University in Scotland has been given a grant of £1.2 million to develop the next generation of gadgets that will be 10x faster and 10x smaller than current technology.

The Money was granted by the The Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) to develop transisters that will be part of integrated circuits in computers, mp3 players, mobile phones and gaming consoles.

Funding bosses are hoping that this will result in the UK being at the forefront of the next wave of technology and bring jobs and further funding to the UK and Scotland in particular.
