Since it’s officially summer time, I may as well go through the top summer related gadgets that we all love:
iPod and MP3 player - Make travel even better, and more importantly enjoy the scenery by blocking out annoying family members and random members of the public.
Games console - It’s summer it must be raining outside, stave off boredom for another few hours with the Nintendo Wii or PS3.
Satnav - Getting lost is a common cause for falling out over the summer months, now you can blame TomTom or Garmin for your inability to read road signs or take basic instructions!
USB toys - While everyone else is having fun outside there is a high chance you will be stuck inside working, this is just the time to invest in some neat gadgets and toys for your desktop.
iPod speakers - again for work, drown out your co-workers telling you their holiday exploits and all the fun they had in India, Africa or Mexico.
Digital photo frames - Show everyone how exotic and unique your holiday was and all the nice peoples phone numbers you have got….
In fact summer is not all that great after all, summer sucks!

It can be a fine line between a gadget and non-gadget, think of all the things we dont consider as being gadgets TVs, cars, cookers, heating systems. They all have enough electronics and micro chips to operate one of the Thunderbirds!!! Think of all the neat things you can do these days ie check your Sky bill through your TV, browse the web on your TV, see extra content through your TV, programme your heating and oven days in advance and thats not even mentioning the Tardis of techie stuff that awaits every time you open your car (remote locking, GPS, white line sensors etc).
On the other side of that equation you have equipment such as mobile phones and PCs, do we consider them to be gadgets any more???? Most of us use a computer every day so can they really be considered gadgets any more. Discounting iPhones and iTouch, can mobiles really be considered as gadgetry? Both computers and mobile phones have to be considered as equipment for the modern world rather than space age gizmos.
Is a gadget a gadget only if its new? or do they have a duration as a gadget? Does a gadget stop being one if a certain number of people have one?
Personally, I think that if your Mum or Gran has a certain item the geek factor is reduced and they can no longer be considered as true gadget. Combining loads of different things (think Apple iPhone) is only a temorary fix and making something smaller and adding a radio is the same!
Gadgets should be innovative and appeal to those of us who have grown up around computers (even if they were Sinclair Spectrums or Atari), no gimmicks or radio pens for us…

Welcome to the wonderful wacky world of the Far East! Lingerie giant Triumph have invented Triumph Solar Powered Lingerie which can charge your mobile phone or MP3 player from a small solar panel that can be microwaved to charge it up or give it exposure to sun light for a few hours which will allow you to charge it up.
So if your mobile battery are running down just whip offf your clothes and go outside and catch some rays!! How this will work in the UK with its woeful weather I dont know.
This all sounds like a gimmick rather than an actual atempt to sort our your gadget power problems, and I dont expect to see ladies stripping to recharge their iPods or mobile phones.

With all the furore about wastage of energy and greenhouse emmisions (and rising utility) bills we could all do with a few pointers to cut wasted energy consumption due to the many gadgets we have around the house and at work. Here are a few of the worst offenders:
Overcharging gadgets especially mobile phones and MP3 media players - Carefully read instructions about charging items and dont leave them on over night unless you have to. Apart from wasting money this can damage chargers and gadgets.
Leaving PCs and laptops on - Whether you fall asleep emailing or downloading this can be a real waste of energy and shortens the lifetime of your computer by up to 10%.
Switch off peripherals - switch off external drives, printers, scanners and USB devices while not in use, you will be suprised how much juice a relatively small device can use up when not in use!
Buy newer gadgets - Newer gadgets use a fraction of the power soaked up by bulky older gadgets.
Switch things off at the wall - Remember that larger gadgets that need mains power can still soak up the power when they look like they are sleeping!
So make the most of your gadgets, utility bills and save the planet!

We have all been there on Christmas day fiddling endlessly trying to get that new gadget working and finally after another few drinks putting it to one side…
Researchers have claimed this week that £23bn worth of gadgets are gathering dust rather than being the life saver we thought they would be. This number does not include when we cant figure out how to use a gadget and get a fraction of the use we could from it! I think everyone would have at least one item which would dont get the most from ie multimedia players where you can only play music and cant get the radio, video, sound recorders etc to work, flash phones with loads of functions you never figured out to use, dodgy Satnav and the worst offenders of course are PCs/laptops which are only use for a few mins a week to check emails or do a little bit of shopping.
In fact, millions of people are switching off their Satnavs and driving ‘old school’ due to their Satnav taking them to somewhere irrelevant! Dodgy gadgets can infuriate the best of us and misleading gobbledgook instructions rarely help to remedy the matter.
So a couple of recommendations would be to avoid over cluttered gadgets with ‘kitchen sink’ features when we are not going to use them, spend more time in a shop trying out gadgets and dont be scared to ask shop staff how to get gadgets working and finally there will be online support for many premium gadgets which may make more sense that instructions printed with your gadget.
With more and more people investing in increasingly complicated and expensive gadgetry this propblem will only increase!
