Another day another Apple product release. How many have Apple had in the last few years? The iPad was released to great fanfare so I suppose the iPad 2 would be expected to be the ultimate gadget-weighing less than a newspaper and faster than the average laptop. Does the hype match up to what people will be buying?
The new iPad 2 is slightly smaller than the previous mark at 241mm tall, 186mm wide, and 8.6mm thickness making it slightly thinner than the new iPhone 4. The ergonomics are better, its easier to grip and is considered sleeker and more curved in looks. Its 15% lighter you may feel its a little plasticky feeling even thought the materials are basically the same.
The iPad 2 will be available in: 16GB Wi-Fi , 64GB Wi-Fi + 3G, 32GB Wi-Fi, 64GB Wi-Fi, 16GB Wi-Fi + 3G and 32GB Wi-Fi + 3G. Prices vary from £399 to £579.
The A5 CPU makes the iPad 2 is fast, almost twice as fast but some apps wont be much faster and some people will be disappointed there. The touch screen has a resolution of 1024 x 768 pixels which is the same as before, the gyroscope is better and smoother than ever.
Safari is faster, and many apps will be faster to load. Generally the iPad 2 is not the last word, essential? No. Pretty and handy? yes.
