The real reasons we buy gadgets

We spend billions of pounds a year on gadgets but why? Here are the real reasons we buy gadgets…

MP3 player - It’s easier to ignore talkative weirdoes on the train or bus, you dont even need to switch it on-just have the earplugs in.

Satnav - Men can’t ask for directions.

Desktop/USB Toys - Work is boring.

Video Phones - It’s so easy to lie by text.

Watches and Clocks (that look like things and make funny noises) - Getting up in the morning sucks and so does turning up on time.

Kitchen Gadgets - Eating good, cooking boring.

Hair Straighteners - Because everyone else does it.

Handfree Phone Kits - While it is a sign of madness, talking to yourself looks cool, and it stops people asking for spare change.

Virtual Pets - Real animals spend half their time asleep and the other making a mess.

Portable games consoles - Hmmmm…pass. Have you seen your face when you are playing computer games?

Top 10 real reasons we buy gadgets, because we should admit them to ourselves at least (and then deny them to everyone else!!) We are interested in technology and not being cool!!!?

There are so many real reasons we buy gadgets, everyone will have their own ones, please leave a comment should you have any better ones.

Apple Nike

Apple are being sued by a US company called PhatRat who say the Apple Nike Kit was based on one of their products. Apple teamed up with Nike to produce Apple-Nike which relays the rate of your steps to your iPod which selects suitable tracks to keep your workout in tune with your personal sountrack. PhatRat make various performance measuring devices.

A radio transmitter placed in your Nike trainers sends signals to a special receiver attached to your iPod (I assume you have to select what tracks are suitable for what level of exertion, unless trainers now have music taste!)

To use this system you will need Apple Nike kit (£19), Nike+ trainers and an iPod.

UMPC the next generation gadget?

mupc-400×400.jpg

What is an UMPC? What does it do? Why are you telling us this stuff?

UMPC stands for Ultra Mobile PC, and is the next generation gadget which will replace the mobile and laptop.

These are now available in limited numbers for around £600 to £900 and are approx 7″ to 8″ with either a small keyboard or even touch screen for the ultimate to space age technology.

Why do I want one? You want one because laptops are hardly pocket size and using the web on your phone is expensive, restrictive or just plain frustrating.

These little beauties will have enough processor to play music and fims while searching the net and have all the usual USB ports you would expect of a standard laptop. Like any item in development these will become steadily more powerful and less expensive as time goes on…

If you are the type of person who likes to have every next generation gadget you will want to hunt down this illusive beast. Not readliy available in Europe yet it is sure to be HUGE in the years to come.

UK Gadget Shops are committed to keep you updated on next generation gadgets and any related gadget news.

New stores on UK Gadget Shops

Just a short blog entry to let you know that I have just finished updating the main site and have found new shops, 3 in total, to add to the 30 that were there already there.

The UK Gadgets Shops is committed to giving users the best service and will add quality gadget stores as they appear.

The new shops as added to UK Gadget Shops on 4th June 2007 are as follows: Needapresent, Feeling Chilled and Loads More Stuff.

Hopefully there will be plenty more new shops to be added to our listings in the next few months.

Lost Property

File this under ‘makes you think…’… London City Transport (or TFL) has 2 floors of lost property stores and has at least 15 iPods and hundreds of mobiles handed in every day. Items handed in each day include the most expensive small electronics available such as top of the line mobiles, laptops, Blackberrys and palmtops amongst others. Makes you think?

Also, how many top businessmen or indeed important government officials leave their laptop chock full of trade secret/secret service data on public transport? Does the MI6 have a special transport squad which searches through all the mobiles and laptops they find?

Where do all these go? They go to a huge lost property depot underneath Baker Street Station which holds over 40,000 items. Hopefully these are recycled after not being claimed.

So the next time you stand up to leave a train, underground train or bus it might be worth your while checking your belongings!!! Before they become lost property.
